Barbara Riccabona, cellist, born 1981 in Tyrol, lives as a freelance musician in Vienna. Her main focus is on new music. She plays with many important ensembles, such as Ensemble Phace, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Wiener Collage, Ensemble Platypus, Studio Dan, Ensemble Reconsil and others, at important festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Wien Modern, Wiener Festwochen and many more. Another important aspect of her work is chamber music, as well as her teaching activities at the Center for Music Education. Important stages of her education were the University Mozarteum Salzburg, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in violoncello with Prof. Heidi Litschauer, graduating with honors in 2006. In 2004/05 she spent an Erasmus year in Malmö (Sweden). She then continued her studies at the conservatories in Frankfurt and Stuttgart, where she passed her master’s degree with Prof. Conradin Brotbek in 2010, also with the highest grade. She played, among others, in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and substituted regularly in the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Her quartet VIERHALBIERT explores the boundaries between old and new music; the ensemble was included in the NASOM- Program 2018/19 of the German Federal Ministry.
